“I need us to go back to where school is a safe place for our children, LGBTQ+ and otherwise.” The recent attacks on LGBT youth in the state from the “Don’t Say Gay” law weighed heavily on her. Mayor did not mince words when asked about her vision for the LGBT community. “I definitely need my community to go back to saying gay.” The fact that the media now expects there to be an LGBT character in every show, and that there is usually more than one, represents progress to Mayor. Mayor explained that she had once been asked during an online interview if she was gay, to which she answered truthfully. “Pride is a sense of assurance, regardless of the moment in your life, regardless of how you are doing emotionally, financially … it is being settled in who you are.” As a queer woman, Mayor understands what Pride represents for so many people. Mayor reached the Semifinals of "America’s Got Talent" in its 2017 season and has been performing professionally ever since. Mayor attended the pride festivities with her girlfriend and performed to the audience of revelers soon after Compass’ mass wedding ceremony.
